Onondaga Lake Park to host Race on the Lake

The excitement of high speed boating racing is set to return to Onondaga Lake next month Onondaga County Parks Commissioner Bill Lansley announced this morning. Race on the Lake, an American Canadian Hydroplane Association sanctioned event, will be held at Onondaga Lake Park on Saturday & Sunday, June 16 & 17 and feature on water action from 9:30am - 5pm.

The two days of competition will include 60 inboard boats/drivers from throughout the US and the Canadian east coast racing in four classes: 1.5 Litre, 2.5 Litre, Hydro 350 and Grand Prix. In addition, 15 - 20 vintage boats will take part in the event and be on exhibition. Expected top speeds are 200mph for the inboards and 150mph for the vintage entries, with cash prizes for the top finalists.

The event will include on-shore activities including an arts & crafts fair, a variety of retailers and food vendors. Applications from artists, crafters and retailers are still being accepted. The East West Demo Team, an all star martial arts youth team, will perform demonstrations both days on the  waterfront stage while Saturday evening will feature live musical entertainment with Nic Lite, a scaled down version of Nik & the Nice Guys from 5-7:30pm, and Gridley Page playing top rock from 8-10pm.
