County Parks Win at Regional Awards Luncheon

Onondaga County Parks took home multiple honors at the 2023 Central New York Recreation and Parks Society (CNYRPS) Awards Luncheon held recently in Fulton. The annual ceremony recognizes the achievements and efforts in the field of parks and recreation in Central New York. A total of 14 awards were given including the following county parks team members and partners:

Dale Grinolds, Director of Planning & Development - David M. Guokas Memorial Award for significant contributions to the advancement of the leisure field and active participation in community service.

Ryan McMahon, County Executive - Elected Official Award given to an elected official who has provided unselfish service and made significant contributions on behalf of the residents in their area, in the interest of recreation, parks, conservation and/or community services through active participation, advocacy, or through policy and legislation.

Megan Ball, Senior Recreation Leader - Tom White Memorial Award given to a member of CNYRPS who is actively involved in the Society and in activities related to the field of leisure services; an individual who has unselfishly contributed time, expertise, and effort to further the principles and goals of the field of leisure services.

Art Kiggins, Park Superintendent 3 - Stewardship Award to recognize excellence of an individual/group in the stewardship of a park, buildings and grounds, or development of new facilities.

CENTRO - Outstanding Corporate Partnership - Recognizing a vendor, company or individual who has significantly contributed to the field of parks and recreation and developed a strong partnership with CNYRPS, a local organization or agency. This vendor, company or individual must have shown great leadership and support to the parks and recreation field by providing equipment, volunteer time, in-kind services or other contributions to a project or program that benefits the community and demonstrates the importance of parks and recreation.

Established in 1969, the Central New York Recreation & Park Society is the independent association formed to represent Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Tioga, and Tompkins counties as a regional partner in New York State Recreation and Parks Society (NYSRPS). Membership is made up of a diverse group of public and private sector professionals, students, municipal board or commission members and commercial vendors. The organization promotes and supports Park and Recreation professionals and the field of leisure services through networking, advocacy and professional development.
