County Executive McMahon Announces Winners of Fourth Annual Parks Winter Photo Contest

County Executive Ryan McMahon today announced the winners of the Fourth Annual Onondaga County/Syracuse City Parks Winter Photo Contest. The contest which ran January 1-31 invited participants to submit photos taken throughout the month at any county or city park for judging in five categories: Best Action, Best Portrait, Best Winter Scene, Most Artistic and Junior Photographer (ages 5-17). In addition, for the first time ever a People's Choice category & a County Executive's Favorite category were added to the lineup. Prizes were awarded to the top two finishers in the five original categories and to the favorites in the two new categories.

Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said, “It is no secret that Onondaga County is a beautiful place to live, even during the cold winter months that sometimes seem to never end and the winners of our photo contest have proven just that. Thank you to all those who braved the elements to show how truly picturesque our community is and I encourage everyone to continue to take advantage of all of our parks.”

1st Place - Daniel Bocchino - "Take Off" - Onondaga Lake Park

2nd Place - Timothy Kane - "Late Afternoon Flight" - Webster Pond 

Best Portrait

1st Place - Patrick Lockley - Rosamond Gifford Zoo

2nd Place - Gina Neri - "Boudoir Ducky" - Rosamond Gifford Zoo 

Best Winter Scene

1st Place - Adam Fine - Onondaga Lake Park

2nd Place - Paul Sonneborn - "Sunrise on a Snowy Bridge" - Onondaga Lake Park

Most Artistic

1st Place - Desirae Locke - Beaver Lake Nature Center

2nd Place - Dennis Waldron - "Stay on the path" - Creekwalk

Junior Photographer

1st Place - Rory Doner, age 16 - Onondaga Lake Park

2nd Place - Rockson Roberts, age 8 - "Mushroom" - Highland Forest

Galaxy Media/Ziebart People's Choice - Chris Sinclair - Rosamond Gifford Zoo
The winner was selected via an online public voting forum in which nearly 700 votes were cast.

County Executive's Favorite - Lexi Jenkins - "Happy Days" - Rosamond Gifford Zoo

Over $2000 in prizes were donated from the following: Syracuse Mets, 110 Grill at Destiny USA, PB&J's "Streetside" Cafe in Liverpool, Dunkin', Bull & Bear Roadhouse & Catering, Ziebart of Syracuse, Galaxy Media, Syracuse City Parks and Onondaga County Parks.
