Onondaga Lake Skate Park

Local celebrity and professional BMX rider Dave Mirra paid a visit to the Onondaga Lake Skatepark doing flips and tricks for nearly two hours.

The 16,900-sq. ft park is concrete and is open to inline skates, skateboards, scooters and BMX bikes. Come and test your skills on its features like the 8ft. deep Liberty Bowl, 7 Stair Gap, 4.5 ft. high Ledge, or 3.5 ft. high volcano. There are also quarter pipes, grind rails, spines, hips and gaps to challenge every skater or biker.

Worried your parents won’t be psyched to come out to the park for the day so you can skate? Don’t be. There’s something for everyone at Onondaga Lake Park.

The skatepark is part of the Family Activity Center featuring Wegmans Playground, the area’s largest playground accessible to children of all abilities, bocce ball and shuffle board courts, a volleyball court, walking and biking trails and free rides on the Wegmans Trams. The park is located in the village of Liverpool where the family can get a bite to eat or stroll through the local shops.

8th Annual SkateJam
Saturday, July 21

The 8th Annual OLP SkateJam was another fun-filled event at the skatepark. The weather was hot, but drinks provided by Vitamin Water and Coca-Cola kept the contestants and onlookers cooled off. All of the competitors did great, but only the top three winners in each age-group received prizes courtesy of Onondaga Lake Park, Stab and Grab Productions and Vitamin Water. The winners of the 15 and under age group are Javaris Williams (center) in first place, Brandon Hall (left) in second place and Noah Meyers (right) in third place. The winners of the 16 and up age group are Sean Horan (center) in first place, Jordan McGriff (left) in second place and Gabe Mekker (right) in third place. After the competition, a 20 minute best trick jam-session was held and additional prizes were awarded to Andrew Grabowski, Kodi Napolitano, Chris Gaiser and Gabe Mekker for their single best tricks.

Congrats to the 2012 Game of S.K.A.T.E. winner Steve Russell
