Parks Commissioner named Conservationist of the Year

Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney today congratulated Onondaga County Parks Commissioner Bill Lansley on being named Conservationist of the Year by the Onondaga County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs at their annual awards banquet held Friday April 11, 2014.

“We know the great job that Commissioner Lansley does running our Parks Department and it means a lot when other organizations honor his efforts,” said Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney. “This well-deserved honor for Bill is particularly significant coming from a group like the Onondaga County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs. The OCFSC is a staunch advocate for sportsmen in our community and I am not aware of another time an award like this was presented to an Onondaga County Commissioner of Parks. Congratulations to Bill and thank you for your hard work on behalf of our community.” 

Stephen Wowelko, President of OCFSC presented the award explaining that Commissioner Lansley goes above and beyond his duties to help the sporting community in Central New York. Bill regularly attends Friends of Carpenter’s Brook, Friends of Beaver Lake, Onondaga County Fisheries Advisory Board and other conservation organization meetings. 

Commissioner Lansley actively participates in many events throughout the year. One of the most important events for the Federation is Sportsman’s Days at Carpenter’s Brook and Stephen noted that without Bill’s efforts the event would not be
