Benches personify public parks, where even though high-energy activities are the draw, sitting is often the most common activity.

Each year, Onondaga County Parks welcome nearly 3 million people who benefit in all sorts of ways from a visit to their county parks. A welcome resting place; an opportunity to visit with old friends, or make some new ones; a cool respite from the sun and the ideal place to sit back and enjoy a beautiful day - park benches accommodate visitors year round.

You or your family can sponsor a bench in several parks. Here’s a useful and unique way to commemorate a loved one, honor a family member or friend, or simply share a friendly message with park visitors.

As well, you are helping to continue the high standards of beauty, comfort and convenience that have been established for your favorite leisure space. Proceeds from the commemorative bench program are utilized for the continued care and enhancement of the respective park facility.

Each bench, built locally, is approximately 8’ in length and is securely anchored in place. A personalized brass plaque measuring 4" X 8" is neatly recessed into the bench backrest, clearly displaying your message.

Sponsorship is $300 per bench (through 12/31/07) for a term of seven years.

You will be contacted by a park representative to confirm your order and review your location request. Onondaga County Parks tries to accommodate specific requests and will work with you to determine a site that is mutually satisfactory, but locations can not be guaranteed. Final bench locations will be at the discretion of Onondaga County Parks based on safety, accessibility and aesthetics.

Within sixty days from the date of your purchase, a representative from the park will confirm the installation and location of your bench. Please note: Installation season runs from April through October.

Sponsorship Renewal:

The Commemorative Bench Program has a term of seven years, during which Onondaga County Parks will care for your bench and provide any necessary refurbishment. At the end of that timespan, you will be contacted and given the opportunity to renew your sponsorship. The renewal rate for sponsorship of your bench will be 50% of the current year's purchase price. (For example: If in 2010, the purchase price is $600, the renewal rate will be $300 to continue your sponsorship.) Should you choose not to renew at that time, simply inform the Park of your decision. Your bench plaque can be picked up at the park as a lasting momento of your gift.
